In 1926, the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova wowed both countries during her world tour. Both countries claim to have invented the dessert in her honor. The airy meringue topped with whipped cream and fruit was supposed to reflect her own lightness of foot.
This dessert has came to be a staple in Australian and New Zealand households, and it’s no wonder the delicious concoction is a source of pride for both countries.
